Not only do many fail to understand the true nature or the soverign God, many do not omprehend the true nature of man. He is described by many as a "free moral agent" and able of his own "free will" to come into the presence of a Holy God and do such things as will cause God to favor him with everlasting life.
Te Bible paints quite a different picture of the nature of man. In Romans, chapter three, man is describedin this way: " There is none righteous no not one. There is none that understands, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all fone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good no not one."
How then are sinners saved? They are saved by the free soverign grace of God. God gives the gift of eternal life to His children whom He loved from the foundation of the world (Ephesians 1). They are drawn to the Savior (John 6:37,44). They see their awful and lost condition, repent of their sins, believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and walk in holiness before Him (Acts 13:48).
How is it with you dear reader? Have you been enabled by the sweet Grace of God to see your lost and hopeless condition before Him? REJOICE! It is a happy consequences of the state of spiritual life (John 3:3). Come to Jesus and find in Him true peace and blessing.

John 6:37 "All the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out"

The Sovereign God

I am completely convinced that most people today have very little real understanding about who God really is and what He is really like. Understanding has been shaped by a theology which sets forth God as one who would really like to do things, but can't because man is not cooperating.
Such statements as, "God has no hands but your hand and no legs but your legs," and other such drivel have confused many about the true nature of God. God is presented asone who is trying to save folks, and would save everyone if only they would allow Him to do so.
Since many do not read and study the Bible for themselves, they have become easily swayed by this modern theology. But what is God really like?
The Bible sets forth our God as a soverign King, who "Doeth according to His will in the army of heaven and among the inhabitants of earth and none can stay his hand or say unto him what doest thou?" (Daniel 4:35)
The fact of the matter is, if any person ever lives with God in glory, it is not of any thing he did. (John 15:16, Romans 9:11,16) It is because a soverign God chose to reveal Himself in those whom He ordained to eternal life. (Ephesians 1, John 6:37-40, Acts 13:48)
Acts 13:48 And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many were ordained to eternal life believed.

Who Chose Whom?

Jesus told His disciples in John 15:16, "Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you..."
Modern humanistic theology has it completely backwards. It boldly declares that men go to heaven because the choos to. Their eternal destiny is entirely in the hands of men.
God certainly wants them to go to heaven and He has done all He can to help them, but the final decision is theirs.
The Bible sets forth no such thing. As much as man would love to sit in the drivers seat, it is not so. In the first place man, in his sinful nature, would never choose God (Romans 3, I Corinthians 2:14, Romans 8:7-8). In second place, the Bible declares God to be the the One who works soverignly as He pleases, not man (Ephesians 1:11).
The truth is, if any man liveswith God in Glory, it will be completely the result of God loving him and choosing him in Christ before the world began (Ephesians 1:1-12).
Those thus chosen are called out of the darkness of sin to walk in The light of the glorious gospel of the Son of God (Acts 13:48, II Timothy 2:10).
If your theology causes you to doubt the fairness of all this it might help you to read Romans 9. May God give us light.
I Corinthians 2:14 'But the natural man recieveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know Them, because they are spiritually discerned.
Ephesians 1:11 In whom we have obtained an inheritence, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things according to the counsel of his own will.

The Love of God

Love is one of God's most glorious attributes. It is so much so that in I John 4:8 it is said "God is Love."
However the gospel message does not begin with the love God, but rather ends with it. It begins with another of God's glorious attributes which is just as real and brings as much glory to Him as does His love; it is His awful wrath.
What is the most evangelical book of the Bible? undoubtedly it is the Book of Acts. Have you ever noticed that the word 'love' does not appear in this book?
Today's gospel begins with love (smile God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life), but the true gospel of the Bible begins with His awful hatred of sin and His wrath against those who love sin (which is all men by nature).
The sermon Peter preached in Acts 2 on the day of Pentecost is the perfect example. To those who are enabled by the grace of God to hear the gospel, repent of their sins, and turn to Christ, the sweet love of God is proclaimed as it is in the letters written to beleivers in the New Testiment churches.
God loves every one of His people, and what is more, He has loved them with an everlasting love (Romans 8:28-39).
John 17:2-3 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
